Hypnotherapy in Forest Row & online

Hypnotherapy that works at the root

A calm, guided way to change the patterns that thinking alone can't shift. In person in Forest Row or online.

Hypnotherapy uses a relaxed, focused state of mind to work directly with the subconscious, the part of you that runs habits, emotions and automatic reactions. My sessions last about an hour, cost from £100, and take place in person in Forest Row, East Sussex, or online by Google Meet. You stay aware and in control throughout.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a therapy that uses hypnosis to help you make changes you haven't been able to make by willpower alone. I guide you into a deeply relaxed, focused state. In that state the critical, overthinking part of the mind steps back, and you become more open to new ways of seeing and responding.

It isn't mind control, and it isn't sleep. You remain aware of where you are, you can talk, and you can come out of the relaxed state whenever you choose. Most people describe it as peaceful, even enjoyable.

Why it works when other things haven't

Most of what we do each day is automatic. Our reactions to stress, the way we speak to ourselves, the fears that flare up, were learned long ago, often in childhood or in emotionally charged moments. They live below conscious thought, which is why understanding a pattern doesn't always change it.

Hypnotherapy works directly with that subconscious level. Together we find what's driving the problem and gently reframe it, so new responses start to feel natural rather than effortful. It's not about losing control. It's about getting it back, calmly and safely, and often faster than people expect.

My approach

I combine traditional hypnotherapy techniques, including direct suggestion and hypnoanalysis, which explores where a pattern began, with coaching that helps you set a clear direction and practical steps. Every session is tailored to you. I don't read from scripts.

Between sessions you'll have time to reflect and notice what's changing, with support by email or phone if you need it. Many clients leave with simple techniques they keep using for years.

I entered into the hypnotherapy personal development programme with Ruth in the hope that I would at least see light at the end of the tunnel with my issues. I have now done so much better than I ever could have anticipated. I was amazed how much my childhood had played a big part in the way I was making decisions every day. I now feel more confident and in control.

Ruth helped me feel calm, safe and in control throughout the whole process. I noticed a massive positive difference after my first session. These changes then continued and were enhanced with each visit.

Questions people ask

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Yes. Hypnosis is a natural, focused state you already drift into when you're absorbed in a film or a long drive. You stay aware, you can speak, and you can open your eyes at any point. Hypnotherapy isn't suitable for everyone, for example some people with psychosis or certain forms of epilepsy, so I'll check your health on the free call.

Can everyone be hypnotised?

Almost everyone can enter a light to medium state of hypnosis, and that is all the work needs. People who think they're too analytical often respond well, because the process works with how they already think.

Will I remember the session?

Usually, yes. Most people remember most of what was said, rather like remembering a conversation while half-dozing. Some details may feel dreamlike.

How is hypnotherapy different from talking therapy or CBT?

Talking therapies mainly work with the conscious, reasoning mind. Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious, where habits, emotional reactions and long-held beliefs live. Many clients come to me after talking therapy helped them understand a pattern but didn't make it go away.

What does hypnotherapy help with?

I commonly help with anxiety and stress, low confidence, fears and phobias, social anxiety, sleep, unwanted habits, emotional eating, preparing for big events, and feeling stuck at a turning point in life.

How long is a session and what does it cost?

Each session lasts about an hour. A single session is £100, a block of three is £280 and a block of six is £570. Payment plans are available.
