Many women feel stuck in their 40s and 50s because life has changed faster than their beliefs about themselves. Children leave, careers plateau, parents need care and bodies change. The way forward is usually not more willpower, but noticing the old beliefs that are keeping you in place and giving yourself permission to want something new.
It's more common than you think
Women who contact me at this stage are almost always capable and high-functioning. Nobody can tell anything is wrong. They describe feeling flat, foggy or as if they're going through the motions, and they often feel guilty for it because on paper life is fine.
Why it happens now
Several big shifts often land at once: children growing up, a parent's illness or death, menopause, a long relationship changing, or a career that's been mastered and no longer satisfies. The roles that defined you are changing, and the beliefs that went with them haven't caught up.
The real block: permission
Most women I work with know, at some level, what they want. What's missing is permission. Beliefs like 'it's too late', 'who am I to want that' or 'I should be grateful for what I have' quietly cancel every idea before it gets started.
Five gentle questions to ask yourself
What did I love doing before I got busy? What would I do if I knew I couldn't fail? Whose voice do I hear when I talk myself out of things? What am I tolerating that I'm tired of? If nothing changed for another year, how would that feel?
How hypnotherapy helps
Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious beliefs that keep you in place. Combined with coaching, it helps you find your direction and frees you to move towards it. My six-session Inner Direction Programme is designed for exactly this moment.
